Contents:
This two-day, four-hour workshop focuses on finding and using datasets already published on PANGAEA, and gives an in-depth introduction to various methods of systematically finding desired datasets for one’s particular task and making them available for further use and analysis. In a combination of theoretical units and practical exercises, the topics covered are given sufficient room to allow participants to gain a lasting understanding of how to make good use of PANGAEA data, and integrate them in typical data analysis workflows in virtual research environments like Jupyter notebooks (with particular focus on Python).

Learning goals:
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to use targeted and advanced search methods to sifting through the large spectrum of earth, biodiversity and environmental data published at PANGAEA, and to integrate these search results into typical analytical and data science workflows mainly using the Python scripting language. They will further be introduced to a powerful (and unique) feature, the Data Warehouse, which allows to conveniently perform meta-studies of PANGAEA's manually curated and extensively harmonized data content on a parameter/variable level by methods, geo-location or time slice.
