Virtual ELIXIR-GOBLET Train-the-Trainer May 2023

This ELIXIR Train the Trainer (TtT) course is aimed at everyone who is interested in becoming a better teacher. Even though this training is aimed at those who are involved in either the ELIXIR Systems Biology or Single-Cell Omics Communities, the first 4 sessions are aimed at anyone interested in becoming a new or better trainer.
At the end of the course, the participants are expected to:
know which learning principles a good trainer should have in mind
describe at least three training techniques drawing on learning principles
design a training session and a course
develop assessment questionnaires
tell what types of material are needed for each part of a training session
Teaching materials will be made available during and after the course in digital format.
Format
This course will be delivered over five morning sessions during one week, in a virtual format via Zoom.
Session 1 – 22 May
Introduction to learning principles
Session 2 – 23 May
Application of learning principles in instructional design
Session 3 – 24 May
Teaching activities to enhance learner engagement
Session 4 – 25 May
Assessment and feedback in training and teaching
Session 5 – 26 May
Challenges when teaching Systems Biology – Barbara Szomolay (Cardiff University, UK) and Cristina Furlan (Wageningen University, NL) and Miguel Rocha (University of Minho, PT)
Challenges when teaching Single-Cell Omics – Eija Koperlainen and Maria Lehtivaara (CSC, Finland)
Brainstorm and group discussions – how to overcome these challenges and improve your training
Registration
To apply for this ELIXIR-GOBLET course, please register via Zoom. You will then receive an email once approved. Whilst this course is initially aimed at those within the ELIXIR Systems Biology/Single-Cell Omics Communities, if there are any spaces left we will open the registration wider.
